Export Market Development Grants (EMDG)

tagThe Export Market Development Grants scheme is to assist exporters. All exporters (including aspiring exporters) are eligible for this scheme. It doesn't matter if you have off-shore sales or on-shore sales, the scheme is designed so that small and medium sized Australian business can develop their export markets. The EMDG scheme achieves this by reimbursing up to 50% of eligible export promotion expenses provided you are able to meet Austrade's criteria.

One of the best features of the EMDG scheme is that each eligible applicant can receive multiple grants. These multiple EMDG could be available to your exporting business.

Who can apply?

tagThe criteria for government grants is always changing so it is best to consult the government department of a grants professional before applying. EMDG is available to any Australian individual, partnership, company, association, co-operative, statutory corporation or trust that has carried out promotional activities for their export business during the fiscal year they wish to apply for the export grant.

For a export business to be eligible it must have income less than $50 million, spent at least $20,000 in eligible export expense as defined by the scheme (however, first time applicant can claim a grant for two years worth of export expenses). The business must have also promoted either a) the export of goods and most services; b) inbound tourism; c) the export of intellectual property, proprietary knowledge, or know-how; or d) conferences or events held in Australia.

Under Austrade's Export Market Development scheme, particular organisations and groups who would not normally considered eligible to apply for a grant under the provisions of the EMDG Act may be able to obtain an approved status to enable them to apply for grants.
