Funding applications are open today to undertake innovative projects that investigate new technologies and approaches to urban water management. The Fund is particularly interested in receiving applications from businesses, research institutions and consultants that address a specific industry need and deliver valuable outcomes.

The Open Innovation Stream supports innovation in the water sector, through investment in projects that have tangible returns whether they be water savings, cost savings or improved sustainability outcomes. The release of Open Innovation Stream funding also comes with new
eligibility and assessment criteria. Prospective applicants are urged to carefully review the new application guidelines and criteria before
submitting an application to the Fund.

A key change from previous Smart Water funding offers is the move to a two-stage application process. The first stage of the process requires prospective applicants to submit a brief Expression of Interest to the Fund outlining the project timelines, deliverables, costs and benefits, and expected outcomes. Those Expression of Interest applications short listed will be asked to submit a detailed project proposal for final funding consideration.

Stage one applications will be accepted from Thursday 3 March until Friday 8 April 2011.
